Lately, I have found myself worrying about teens who are frequent Juulers (vapers/ e-cigarette users) and whether this habit would lead to adverse outcomes if they were to be infected with COVID-19. The answer is that we just don't know. Other than the epidemic of vaping associated lung injury that caused so many ICU stays and deaths last summer/fall, we don't have a ton of data about acute and long-term health effects of vaping because it's a relatively new phenomenon. And now we find ourselves in the midst of a pandemic from a novel virus-- again, not a lot of data yet re: what factors might predict a poor outcome. Data or no data, this is a good time to talk with teens about vaping. COVID-19 as a conversation starter.
